Human-made Crystals

Natural crystals take a long time to form. People discovered that they can make crystals using special equipment. Human-made crystals cost 10-100 times less than nature made crystals. The first man-made crystals were made in 1837. Cubic Zirconia is a fake diamond. Only an expert can tell the difference between a real diamond and a cubic zirconia.

All about Diamonds

Well, all diamonds are crystals and are made of atoms. Diamonds mean everlasting love. That is why people put diamonds on their engagement ring. Diamonds are made in an igneous rock called kimberlite. The rock is named after the city with the world's deepest diamond mine, Kimberly, South Africa.Diamonds are also found in Brazil, Australia, India and Russia.

Father Bear Comes Home

Little Bear told Hen that Father Bear was coming home. Little Bear and Hen pretended like they were going fishing. They saw Duck and they all marched together to the river. Then they saw Cat and went home to see Father Bear. And they told Father bear all about the mermaid. Father Bear didn't believe them. So Little Bear had Father bear listen to a seashell to see if he could hear the mermaid's voice.

Crystals have habits. It forms the same shape on the outside as it has on the inside unless too much heat or pressure makes the shape different.

Today I learned about cabinetmakers. They used a tool called a lathe. A lathe was made out of wood and metal. It was used to turn the piece of wood that the cabinetmaker was working on.

Crystals are made out of atoms. Diamonds, rubies, sapphire and emeralds are all crystals. Scientists who study crystals are called crystallographers.

Yesterday, I read about being an apprentice in colonial times. An apprentice was a young person who worked with someone to learn the trade that that person did. This week I will be an apprentice at home. I am learning to do the dishes.
